Term Definition Discussion Examples & Illustrations
Justification A term used in some conventional approaches to project management that is not recognised in MFBP. In many cases, the process of justification is fundamentally flawed—in that it involves fabrication of a list of beneficial results that may emerge fortuitously from the project—but that are not targeted as success criteria.

The problem arises from a confusion in much of the literature between two related (but distinct) expressions:
  • a decision to proceed can (and must) be justified
  • a project itself can never (in any meaningful way) be justified.
